Since my query about the above altoist a while back I've come across a
couple of pages  (24-25) devoted to him in Bud Freeman's book "You Don't
Look Like A Musician." Bud describes him as "One of the brightest, craziest
and most talented saxophonists I've ever known." He's the one who attacked
a grizzly bear in the Chicago zoo with a golf club!
