Has anyone heard of a musician in the UK named Brian Ferry? My daughter has been playing some of his music for me. It is very interesting but rather unsettling to me.

Evidently he is or was a Rock or Pop musician. As I understand it, he took his Pop/Rock songs and arranged them for a late 1920, early 30s big band Swing style.

Listening to his arrangements is unsettling to me because the chord structure is not the standard chord patterns that we hear in Classic Jazz. It is chord patterns that don’t make sense to me.

However, at the same time, the sound of the band and the musicianship does not sound like modern studio musicians trying to emulate the sound of the 20s. It sounds authentic, as if he used real OKOM players.

I’d be interested in hearing more about him from our UK Listmates.
