I attended the  New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 1980, and it was
already like that.  Only one stage devoted to traditional jazz, and even
that one did not feature "strictly jazz."  Moreover, the performances I
heard there sounded like "tourist Dixieland."  I heard the same people
playing their (the list does not allow using the term) off at Preservation
Hall on the same nights.
