Jude wrote about Zimmertime:

I gather that it is a funny version of Summertime referring to the
artificial limbs, etc., created by the U.S. company Zimmer. Zimmer & the
other biggest name in these products (can't remember the company name now)
are both located in Warsaw, Indiana. Approximately half of the town (which
is halfway between South Bend & Ft. Wayne) works for these two companies.
Why this small town became the world capital in artificial gadgets for the
human body is beyond me.

Another interesting fact about the area is that encompassed within Warsaw is
another town, Winona Lake, where Billy Sunday had his church. That is the
Billy made famous in the song "Chicago", the town that Billy Sunday could
not shut down". Billy stood on the pulpit with his trombone in his hand
preaching & playing with the band & choir. I've seen pictures at the museum
in Winona Lake.

Now, it may sound as though I'm trying to replace Bill Haesler as the
"expert" on this list, but that is not so. It just so happens that my
mother & sister live in Warsaw, and since my mother is now 96, I tend to go
to see her about every six months. Therefore, I now know more than I really
ever wanted to know about Warsaw, and decided to pass all of this
interesting information off to my listmates on djml (since it includes the
two musical references mentioned above).

I'll be in that town for 6 days early next month, actually, using up some of
my free miles on Iberia Airlines. Unfortunately, the Madrid/Chicago route
is still flying older Airbus planes. The new models have an updated
entertainment system which features our latest cd on the Jazz music channel.
I could sit there & nudge the person next to me saying "that's my band", not
that he/she would care........

P.s. I finally figured out how to get a cup of coffee served in a proper
cup in Winona Lake, instead of those horrid paper cups with a plastic top &
a baby-sucker type hole to suck your coffee from that you now get all over
the U.S. First, you have to look to see if the place has a wash-up
area...many don't as all they use is paper, & then insist & insist on a
proper cup. No musical content on this matter, but a major gripe I have
when I go to the U.S. Even Starbuck's coffee tastes half decent when served
in a proper mug.
