Hi Bill,
I remember seeing Buddy Feather........... many years ago .
There used to be regular Sunday night Jazz concerts at The Pavilion in Bath
about10 miles from home..
I remember Harry Parry and Harry Gould and his Pieces of eight also. Vic
Lewis I also remember the Squadronnaires and the Army big band, Blue
Rockets I think but not sure. Good but not in the same class as the Squads.
Ithink it was Harry Gould who had a black drummer named Freddie Crump. His
party piece was for the band to leave the stage while he solo`d which he
would do by playing all across the stage down the stepsinto the
audience.Play on teeth, spectacles handbags, ladies shoe heels, seat backs.
He seemed to go on for ever, never missinga beat until he played himself
back onto stage behind his kit. then the band would rejoin for a rousing
last wallop. great showman
It was always a race from the Pavilion to the railway station to get the
last train home otherwise it was a long walk.
Pat.
