Concerning what makes a good solo...

I appreciate that a few people have touched on the intangibility of what
makes a good solo. I agree that it has a lot to do with context: how every
note and phrase exists in time to what is happening around it musically or
otherwise. I think we get off track when we try dissect this missing
intangible element with technical or even emotional terminology. Why be shy
about calling it what it IS: magic! enchantment! jazz!

Concerning Ornette...

I went back to my records and listened just to be sure I wasn't fooled,
and, it still sounds like music to me!
