Nelson Riddle had a hand in the Gatsby score?
GARRULUS GLANDARIUS GATSBY
O who can love Nelson Riddle
of the acres of saccharine fiddle?
His bankers doing their sums?
Let me get back behind my drums
for a sardonic paradiddle
and a caustic ratamacue
so I do not feel too deeply blue,
a press-roll presto like a Gat
laying an enemy regiment flat,
or a morse message to distant Kalamazoo ...
or some simpler-named precinct as far away,
Thompson-gun spray on St. Valentine's day,
even the great Louis Bellson --
not our sugary sawmaster Nelson;
better the tuneless croak of a real jay.
