I always remember Bruce learning to perfection the clarinet solo on Fats's 'Ridin' But Walkin' '. I first heard it played by him in the Fifties. We both thought then that the original solo had been played by Otto Hardwicke.
I remember Bruce's great surprise when I told him, in the last week of his life, that it had been the work of Albert Nicholas.
Bruce could also do a mean Artie Shaw and, with his Jump Band, the John Kirby Orhestra.
