[Dixielandjazz] Uptempo vs cut time

4/4 is also called "common time" and sometimes indicated with a big C in
place of the 4/4 notation. There are normally four pulses per measure,
regardless of the tempo.

"Cut time" is actually 2/2, and has two pulses per measure, again
regardless of tempo. Think of the up-tempo Broadway show 2 feel (That's
Entertainment, and so on...)

It's not unusual to find music intended for a fast tempo to be notated in
cut time since it is often easier to read than the equivalent in common
time. At fast tempos, the feel is usually in two rather than in four, but
often the distinction is ignored.

Clear?
