Dear Hall,
What a great year we've had planning for the future of AJP. It's all about the music
as we like to say. Our mission continues to receive support in a variety of forms.
We set out to spread the word and build our following so we can continue for years
to come. We have secured two new AJP Partners for 2013, The City of Roswell Cultural
Arts and Chukkar Farm Event Facility. Our Inaugural Event for "Roswell Presents
Friday Night Live" will feature The Freddy Cole Quartet in the beautiful 600 seat
Roswell Cultural Arts Theater Friday February 15th. Beginning May 17th we will
kick off a "Jazz Beneath the Stars" series at the beautiful outdoor venue of Chukkar
Farm in Alpharetta. Both of these venues are quite special and we are proud to have
been chosen to produce future events.

The 2013 Jazz Education Network
Pualani and I were so pleased when we received our invitation toparticipate as volunteers
for this years JEN Conference. We were amazed to see so many familiar faces though
this was our first JEN Conference. It is THE ONE EVENT to attend in terms of networking,
clinincs, exhibitors, celebrity performers and workshops and more. Here are a couple
of photo's from the week..

JEN Co-founder/President Dr. Lou Fischer critiques the performance of Western Michigan

Legends of old and new up and coming performers fro m Rufus Reidto Bria Skonberg.
Something like 200 perfromances on 3 stages and attended by nearly 3000 Jazz lovers.
Good times were had by all.

The Atlanta Jazz Preservation Society brings Freddy Cole to Roswell, Georgia
Friday February 15th
It's always special to see Freddy perform and he took a break from his seemingly
never-ending world tour to perfom at this years JEN Conference 2013 held in Atlanta.
Pua and I were right there to see every minute of it too.
Lionel Frederick Cole was born on October 15, 1931, the youngest of Edward and
Paulina Nancy Cole's five children. His three elder brothers, Eddie, Ike and Nat
(twelve years Freddy's senior) were all musicians.
"I started playing piano at five or six," Freddy remembers. "Music was all around
me." In the Chicago home of his youth, visitors included Duke Ellington, Count
Basie, and Lionel Hampton. He also credits Billy Eckstine as a major
influence. " He was a fantastic entertainer," Freddy recalls. " I learned so much
from just watching and being around him." After a possible career with the NFL was
shelved due to a hand injury, he began playing and singing in Chicago clubs as
a teenager. Although he was ready to hit the road at 18, his mother intervened
and he continued his musical education at the Roosevelt Institute in Chicago.
A resident of Atlanta since 1972, he currently leads this quartet made up of himself,
guitarist Randy Napoleon, drummer Curtis Boyd and bassist Elias Bailey that regularly
tours the US, Europe, the Far East and South America. Pualani and I have come to
be friends with Freddy and his wife Margaret over the years and we could not be
happier to join The City of Roswell for their "Friday Nights Live" series to jointly
produce this concert. We hope to see you at this event held Friday February 15th

About us.......
The Atlanta Jazz Preservation Society, Inc is a non-profit founded on and dedicated
to globally promoting, producing and preserving the American Art form of JAZZ
while supporting environmental issues and communities where we do business.
We were founded in 1990 by Phil and Lee Carroll. It is said that they decided they
had traveled to enough similar events around the Country and felt the desire to
take a chance and create a "Party" like event where friends and family could come
together each spring in Atlanta. The recipe was simple; one stage, a Cabaret Ballroom
with dance floors, 24 internationally recognized All-Star performers. It's a recipe
that has worked and received international recognition. The next 20 years produced
some of the most memorable events of our lives. We've produced and recorded nearly
20 Recordings that you can find today on Amazon, Target and iTunes! Our recordings
were the 'brainchildren' of our dear Jazz friends Wendol Echols, George H. Buck
and Dad. 2008 marked the passing of Mr. 'Phil Carroll' Jazz (my dad) and among
his last wishes was that we continue to promote and preserve our beloved American
Art of Jazz.
