In another group I've come across an announcement of a free notation
program.  I'm not competent to judge how helpful it might be for a
professional, but the Web site makes it sound pretty sophisticated.

I plan to install it for testing, but that may be a while from now. At
any rate, it takes only a few minutes to see what it might do for your
needs.
