I seem to be opening old wounds.
The cornet/trumpet on the Blind Willie Dunn may sound like Oliver but, to my
ears, the phrasing is different and the tone is not the same. As I said, the
give away for me was the "You Can't Cheat A Cheater" recorded by "Tom Dorsey
And His Novelty Orchestra" 23 April 1929. As Bill Haesler said, thanks to
YouTube you can hear it in good quality on:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=you+can%27+cheat+a+cheater&oq=you+can%27+cheat+a+cheater&gs_l=youtube.12...2797.17578.0.20625.24.23.0.1.1.0.203.2504.13j9j1.23.0...0.0...1ac.1.D0Meg_rcZVI
And then compare this to Blue Blood Blues (see Haesler's mail). For Marek -
you can download YouTube tunes and play them foreword or backward off your
computer as you like.
I am still looking for good Dorsey trumpet/cornet solos - I mean jazz not
just lead in a dance band.
Yours aye, Christopher
