Hello, All,
I have just joined this list and was pleased to open the first email in the February, 2013 Archive to find the good news of Bob Blyer's recovery. While I have never met him, I am quite familiar with his work an chatted with him once. He made one of my favorite recordings - Jeff Harmon Jazz at the House Of Como in 1966. Jeff's band had a 6-year gig there and on that particular night, members of another Dixieland band joined in. Jeff was playing bass (as usual - although he is a great Dixieland valve trombone player) and his buddy, the late Al Barthlow, did the trombone honors. Al went on to be music director for Harry Connick, Sr. and bone player for the Dukes of Dixieland in the 90's.
For Bob's benefit, we had Jeff Harmon Jazz do a house concert for us last September and requested one set featuring Jeff singing and playing bone. What a thrill that was! Sadly, my recording was not up to Bob's standards, but even so, what an afternoon that was. Jeff is 86 and still playing well!
Best to Bob and best regards to the rest of the list.
Harry George
