Hello listmates. Here's a note from "miracle man" veteran jazz
photographer/journalist Bob Byler. He writes about his recovery from
illness and extensive surgery. I know that we all rejoice with him and his
family. Wishing him continued progress in his recovery.
My suggestion is not to inundate him with e-mails or phone calls as he and
family need to recover and get much needed rest.
Should you wish to drop him a note, his address is:
341 E. Seminole Dr.
Venice, FL 34294
Thanks all.

Subject: Byler's recovery
Norm: Thanks for communicating with jazz friends about my medical needs and
surgeries. I learn now that I'm a survivor; the family doctor even used the
word "miracle" for my recovery from such major surgery at age 82. I was in
the hospital or rehab center for 33 days, have been home for a week, and
doing well, not needing the walker we got, but needing to build some
strength day-by-day. I'm now missining a foot of colon, another foot of
small intestine, some benign tumors in bladder and infections in diverticula
or wherever. You know all about that, of course. More good news is that
I'm free of any pain, and I was having plenty the last 5 or 6 months last
year, but hadn't recognized the seriousness of the problems that led to
four hours of surgery on Christmas Eve. A Christmas to remember, indeed.
Of many get well greetings, I especially enjoy one from the New Black Eagle
J.B. (my longtime favorite) with a 2009 CD of mostly blues tunes. That
music will certainly speed my healing. Thanks everybody for support,
friendship and being part of a great musical & social culture. Bob Byler
