[Dixielandjazz] Herb Alpert

I have not read any posts about this band leading trumpet player-who broke into the jazz scene years ago with a Mexican flavored band that really swung. I mention him here because he often tagged his tunes with a dixieland ending, and on some occasions included a whole hot jazz chorus, ala Dixie style. "Green Onions" comes to mid here- No clarinet of course, but the tenor sax, trumpet and trombone do a credible job in the front line.
Anyone know if Herb was a "closet jazz lover??" His group really swung!!!                          Ted Blackington
