Attendance at the Sacramento Music Festival surged this year, the event's organizer
announced this morning.
The increase in
ticket sales
for the 40-year-old Memorial Day weekend festival was attributed to the push to recruit
nationally recognized bands that appealed to a wider demographic.
"The festival took a new approach this year and went after bands with more mainstream
recognition, like
Los Lobos,
Kenny Wayne Shepherd and others," said Mike Testa, marketing director for the event,
in a news release. "This year's growth puts the event on a trajectory towards even
greater success in the coming years."
Los Lobos attracted a record 3,300 people alone. Despite appealing to a wider audience,
organizers were quick to note that the festival remained true to its "roots of traditional
jazz history," with that genre making up more than 50 percent of all bands.
