HAve you ever heard of Jimmy Oliver?
Having heard him on a recording of Solitude with Jo Jones, I looked him up
and found something about a Philadelphia musician Jimmy "Bad Man" Oliver.
However, that Oliver was a bopper, or even beyond, as he plyed with, among
others, John Coltrane, wheras the one on Jo Jones' recording sounded like a
swinger out of the Lester Young school. On the other hand, he quoted Benny
Goodman, Artie Shaw, and, first and foremost, Lester Young as his
influences; it was listening to Young that made him buy and learn to play
the tenor saxophone.
Is it the same person? The record in question was recorded back in 1977.
Cheers
