[Dixielandjazz] Earthquake McGoons and Clancy Hayes

In the 1960s before I worked at McGoons, I remember going in and seeing Clancy playing intermissions. 

I remember one night when he did a whole series of great tunes. For them, he got a smattering of applause. 

Then he did a medley of “Five Foot Two,” “Ain’t She Sweet” and some other equally simple tune and brought the house down. I just shook my head. Most of the people in the club had no idea of the great musician they were listening to. 

Of course, Turk always said that if he had to rely on Jazz fans to keep McGoons open, he’d go broke.
