Dear Bill and Mike,

Many thanks for giving me the correct name of my rubber sucker. Actually I 
only know it by its Norwegian name - 'dopumpe' (translates as 'W.C. pump')

However, I'd always thought of a plunger mute as being made of thin metal, 
maybe plastic-coated with a little handle in front.
I would hazard a guess that a rubber sucker gives a more mellow tone than a 
true plunger mute.
