ROBERT R. CALDER in his quiet way has introduced a new and obscure thread:
> ...Jesse LaMoore, credited by a scholar as author of the lyrics of various Blind Lemon recordings...Jesse as I recall is credited with a blues recorded by the master guitarist and singer Blind Blake.
Dear Robert.
I will not be hooked, not be hooked.....not be hooked.
Well just a little bit.
'LaMoore' has co-composer credit on the Paramount label for well over a dozen Blind Lemon Jefferson blues sides.
Apart from the Jeffersons, LaMoore also has co-composer credit for other Paramount artists including Blind Blake (as you have noted), Papa Charlie Jackson, Hattie McDaniel ("Dentist Chair Blues") Carter Boys (early Josh White), Hokum Boys, James Wiggins, Charlie Spand and Washboard Walter.
Alex van der Tuuk in his excellent 2003 book 'Paramount's Rise and Fall' identifies 'A LaMoore', 'La Moore' and 'Selma Davis' as pseudonyms for Aletha Dickerson and her pianist husband Alex Robinson who, in the late 20s, ran the Paramount Race Record Department and managed The Hokum Boys.
That orta do it.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
