Just thought I would pass on the comment of a friend to whom I forward Steve's memoirs of the mighty and mightily amusing. 

I'm sure I wasn't competent to assess his capability as a jazz writer when I started reading Jazz Journal as a schoolboy, and I'm also sure that a lot of readers learned a great deal from his column and his serious reviewing. A delightful surprise when he suddenly popped up here!
