I've been very lucky to have been exposed to so many different styles of
music by sitting behind the mixing console in my studio during the day &
playing jazz at nite, and the only type of music I don't like is badly
performed music.

Some of the modern pop music, including rap, etc., can be extremely well
done. Unbelieveably good recordings with talented people. I can respect
that. Not my prefered style, but I can get something out of it anyway.
There is a lot to learn from people like Prince & Mick Jagger.

Contemporary music (I worked on 22 albums in one year awhile back)....again,
not my preferred music, but if it's well done, there is something there to
enjoy & even understand.

Modern jazz: I prefer the earlier Miles recordings to his later ones, but
that doesn't mean I wouldn't consider his music overall, for example.

Renaissance & Gregorian Chants: that's basically what I did all year long
for about 5 yrs. The convent next door to my place loved me when I left the
studio doors open! Playing gigs at nite saved me! Once again, though, I
was working on restoring old masters from the famous Monks of Silos & new
recordings from the world famous Exaudi Choir from Cuba, so who am I to
stick my nose up in the air?

Our djml contributor, Sep, said it all: >The last discussions on this list
showed the complete lack of respect by some of the participants towards
"people of different beliefs".

It's the different beliefs that contribute to the diversity that makes music
so enjoyable to so many.
