[Dixielandjazz] Union Rags wins the Belmont Stakes - Dixieland?

Three Cheers for Union Rags, Owned by local Horse Breeder Phyllis Wyeth, wife of artist Jamie Wyeth. He won the Belmont Stakes today. Sweet.

But what does that have to do with Dixieland? 

Well, the horse is a grandson of one of the most successful stallions around Southeast Pennsylvania and Northern Delaware, the horse country where I live on my horse farm. That horse was named DIXIELAND BAND by a one of his principal owners, Bayard Sharp,  a huge fan of Dixieland music. He hired Barbone Street to play a posh party at the Vicmead Hunt club every year since we formed until the day he died. All those attending danced to Dixieland and many bought shares in Dixieland Band when he was syndicated.  

Dixieland Band's son Dixie Union is Union Rags' daddy. And Dixieland Band's sire was the great Northern Dancer. Nice to see him win a very tough race.
