Today's "This Day In Jazz Age Music" features, among others Billie Goodson
Pierce. This may be of special interest to those interested in New Orleans
and Gulf Coast music. Billie was a pianist and one of three of the famous
Goodson Sisters. Others were Sadie and Ida. Billie married cornetist De De
Pierce, lived in New Orleans and was part of the Preservation Hall Jazz
Band.

Sadie also married a musician, moved to NO and became part of that scene.
Ida stayed in Pensacola and played honky-tonk piano during the week and
church piano on Sundays. All three have since died.

Some few years ago, the Jazz Society of Pensacola put on a program about the
Goodson sisters. That program was directed by Barry Martyn, a Brit to
immigrated to the US while still in his teens. Others from the Tulane Jazz
Archive contributed to the informative program and they played appropriate
music for the occasion. The pianist on that program, another youthful
immigrant from Britain, had taken lessons from Billie.

Their father was a railroad employee. When they lived in Pensacola the home
was on northeast corner of Tarragona ( Railroad St) at Wright Street. The
home is no longer standing. The home was only a short distance from the
Railway station.
