I forgot to write that there IS a drink with brandy & anis mixed together.
It is half & half & is called a Sol y Sombra (Sun & Shade) for the two
colors of the liquids. When I first came to Spain, you could see
construction workers whopping a glass of that back at outdoor bars before
going off to work....in one toss of the head! :>
There MUST be a song about that sort of thing.....
I did a radio jingle once for a brand of Anis (Anis del Mono) to the melody
of The Saints. It was terrible words, but it was what the advertising
agency wanted! I sang it, the band played.
I don't care for that brand, preferring Chinchon (a brand from a town near
Madrid called Chinchon. Cantiflas landed his balloon in the bullring (the
square in the center of town) in Chinchon in the movie "Around the World In
80 Days". I played a bullfight there in the 60's (not jazz, but Pasadobles.
Here's a really nice Pasadoble: Sighs of Spain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msVNrdivax0&feature=related albeit with full
orchestra.
