CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP?

ELZADIE ROBINSON

            Johnny Dodds-cl / Jimmy Blythe-p/ Arthur Phelps (Blind Blake)-g/
Elzadie Robinson-vo.

Chicago (Paramount) May 1928 - not to be confused with the earlier session
from April 1928 with Jimmy Bertrand on xylophone.

20584 Pay Day Daddy Blues -whistle imitation JD. 3:11.

It was originally issued on Paramount (Pm) 12635. Klaus-Uwe Dürr (The
Recordings of Johnny Dodds, 2000) page 19 says that there are four versions
of this 78 record.

I have listened to the following reissues and, to my ears, they are all come
from the same take but not all from the same 78 record.

LP: Ristic-43 - claims to be taken from take -1.

LP: WSE-133 - makes no claims.

LP: NLJ-18023 - claims to have used 20528 take -3 - a completely different
session!

CD: BSCD-32 - makes no claim.

DGF-77 claims to have used take '-1 -2'.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHICH TAKE THIS IS?

HAVE OTHER TAKES FROM THIS SESSION BEEN REISSUED?

While on the subject. CD DGF-77 claims to have used take -2 of 20583 (Pm
12635) Elzadie's Policy Blues. I guess this is just a mistaken - it should
be take -1.

AM I WASTING MY TIME WITH REISSUES OF PARAMOUNT RECORDS?

Yours aye, Christopher Cook
