The Times-Picayune is celebrating 175 years. Many stories are posted.
Louis Armstrong feature gives story/ photos relating to his life. Includes
photos of him as King Zulu in 1949--- he and crew are in blackface. Also
shown his original cornet and news clipping about his being sentenced to the
Waif's home for discharging a pistol. Also mentioned is the Satchmo
Summerfest, held in New Orleans first weekend in August. It began 2001,
Louis' actual centennial. ( Since he had always said that he was born on
July 4, 1900,

Instead of the actual August 4, 1901, his centennial was celebrated twice.)

I have attended all but one-interesting lectures, outstanding speakers in
air-conditioned surroundings. Also , interesting music -open air stage.

It's free. There's a website for Satchmo Summerfest. One may sign up for
notification.
