Dear Pat,

I confess that I had to look up 'halidom', because although I've heard the
word I was somewhat unsure if its meaning.
I used my 1965 edition of 'The Penguin English Dictionary' (G.N.
Garmonsway), and this enabled me to play one of my favourite trivial games,
viz.:
At the top of each page the first and last words on the page are hyphenated
together, and this gives some very interesting combination phrases.
Here are a couple of examples: 'fig-leaf--filler' and 'militarize-mincemeat'
(shades of the Goon Show?).
Then there's the musical connection: 'obtainable-octet'.

Kind Regards

Bob Smith
