I have been taking ballroom lessons for some time. I have been taught that
the outside of the floor is the "high-speed" lane and the center is for
those who stay in one place or progress slowly and this makes room for
everyone. I also have been taught to manuver to avoid collisions.
I believe that this "lane" concept is also the norm in country/western and
polka dances.
>From what I have seen of modern "swing dancers" (the current generation, not
their elders), they flail about with no concern for whom they may kick and
no concept that each is the not center of the world and to H--L with anyone
they may trample.
I live in south Louisiana, and there are some music venues I can think of
where anyone acting as those do for very long would get an impromptu
swimming lesson in a bayou which is home to alligators and water moccasins.
