Dear Nancy & Bob:

Just got a reply from Edie. (bassist Jack Fay's daughter) Here is a
copy:

Dear Steve.

Thanks for returning my email, that was really nice of you. I’ve seen
Charlie Traeger’s name on quite a some records that are out there.
I’ve found a few with my dad’s name on them.
I found a couple on line with Pee Wee Erwin, Billy Maxted and Vaughn
Monroe when he sang the song “Pretty Little Busy Body” and Red Nichols
“Hot Lips” on U-Tubs, june 21, 1939
He’s on that picture. I played “the Saints go Marching in” for my
sons when they were a teenagers and they both had bands when they
were younger, one played lead guitar and the other bass. My younger
son Glenn Palermo plays Bass and makes his living playing music. He
has students and subs for lots of bands, he made a few recordings with
different groups and loves music. I watch him when he plays his gigs
and he definitely Gets in the zone, like my dad did when I watched
him. He loves to play jazz and the blues. His friends call him Papa G.

All the names you mentioned I remember hearing my dad and mom talk
about. Phil Napoleon, Pee Wee Erwin, Billy Maxted, Sammy Spear, etc.
I have a picture of him at Nicks
With pictures of the presidents around the ceiling part of the wall
and someone was having a birthday party and everyone was around a
piano. My dad was in Vaughn Monroe’s movie
Carnegie Hall, which I saw a picture of him in the band in the
background. He played with him 1941-1947. He was also with Sammy
Spear orchestra and played with him on “the Honeymooners”
Every time I hear the music I think of him. I remember he was on the
Dinah Shore show in the orchestra and he feel ill in the Burt Lahr’s
play on Broadway in NYC.

The Bayside home 35th Ave and 200th St. was knocked down and a
McMansion is there now a couple of years ago and all the trees fell to
dutch elm disease. I’ve been back many times over the
years just to re-visit my youth and memories.

Thanks again for your kindness.

Take care and keep well.

Edie Palermo
