Steve Gilmore is longtime bassist (30+ years) with saxophonist Phil Woods
group. He sends his own anecdote about encounter with disruptive talkers.
We are grateful that he is now living in nearby Panama City ( 100 miles east
of Pensacola); consequently, when he's not traveling, we get to hear him
from time to time.
Thanks, Steve. Keep those e-mails coming!

Subject: Re: Talkers vs. listeners--- Jaki Byard and Hal Galper anecdotes
from Ken Dryden
Many years ago I was in the middle of a long exhausting tour with Phil
Woods. We were playing an outdoor concert in the town square in a small city
in Italy. During the bass solo there were a couple of besotted young guys
making a racket in the front row and in exasperation I lost it and yelled
out " shut the F## up you Ass##s. I'll never forget that Hal Galper and Bill
Goodwin who were accompanying me thought I was yelling at them and
immediately started playing at a whisper.
