The Barb City Stompers
Appear in Fox Lake

The Barb City Stompers are set to appear in Fox Lake, WI on May 18, 2012, as part of the line-up of fantastic bands at the Bunny Berigan Jazz Jubilee. The Barb City Stompers are based in DeKalb, Illinois and have been together since 2005.  They play a “Driving Traditional Jazz” that is a cross between Dixieland and Swing.  All of the musicians in the group are experienced Jazz musicians that have played all over the USA and in Europe.
John Skillman is the leader of the band on Clarinet.  John has been playing his Clarinet for at least 31 years and has been the Clarinetist for the Buck Creek Jazz Band, The Chicago Hot Six Jazz Band and the CanAmGer Jazz Band. John has taken his Coast-to-Coast Jazz Band all over the U. S.  His style ranges from down-town New Orleans to Chicago swing. He has performed at numerous jazz festivals in the United States and is bringing his Barb City Stompers to the Bunny Berigan Jazz Jubilee for the first time.
Members of his band are Mike Evans on Banjo and vocals.  Mike comes from Columbus, Ohio, and plays with the New Orleans Night Hawks in Florida and in the national-level band, The Coast-to-Coast Jazz Band.  In Ohio Mike leads the Toll House Jazz Band and has performed as a solo banjoist aboard the American Queen riverboat on the Mississippi River. Roy Rubinstein on Trombone plays a New Orleans style jazz.  He has recorded the Dekalb Blues and co leads the Rhythm Aces with David MacGregor.  In real life Roy teaches a variety of Computer Science Courses.  Roger Hintzsche on bass is a graduate of NIU music school.  He is a native of the DeKalb area and he enjoys playing with several ensembles in the area.  Mike Albiniak on drums has been playing for the last 40 years. At an early age he came to regard Traditional and Classic Jazz as his music of choice.  He is a Jelly Roll Morton fanatic and that is his band of choice for listening
pleasure.  When asked why he zeroed in on early jazz he said “Music is pure emotion, and this jazz makes me feel the best”.  Diana Skillman rounds out the band with her vocals.  She tends to emulate the growls and sprightly tempo of a twenties-era singer.  Diana will feel right at home in the American Legion Clubhouse on May 18th at 6:30 PM when the band kicks off.                          For more information on the Bunny Berigan Jazz Jubilee one can go to www.bunnyberiganjazzjubilee.com , call 920-928-6094 or email julieflemming at yahoo.com
