Dear Robert,

I have no wish to perpetuate discussion of "The Golden Ass", but I should
just like to say that my 'mostly read for all its "bawdy" scenes' is a
paraphrase of Robert Graves' introduction to his translation (published by
Penguin Books in 1950), viz.:
"The book's popularity, ever since it was written, has rested almost wholly
on its 'pleasant and delectable jests', especially the bawdy ones."

Kind Regards

Bob Smith
