It's not the "military mind" that's doing this, it's the stupid civilians in
the government who keep cutting the military budget for important things
(such as defense (sic) of home and hearth) so as to spend the money to buy
more votes for their worthless selves.
When a military service has to choose between having another crate of
ammunition or a morale and recruiting tool, they go for the ammunition every
time, as they should. In the last analysis they can press-gang cannon-fodder
if they have to do it. And in a British-style disarmed civilian populace,
who is going to stop them?
As for what will happen to the "surplus" equipment, you know full well it
either will be stored and forgotten for a century or auctioned off for 2¢ on
the dollar at some unpublicized site.
Music content: get to the auction early to get some real bargains in
instruments.
