Just back from another annual Stompers' concert at the Young Israel
synagogue in Netanya, a town north of Tel-Aviv. I'm happy to report
that the place was packed, albeit mostly by elderly people. At least
some came from a nursing home in which the bandleader, Stanley Ross,
has been volunteering for quite a few years.
The concert went quite well, even though I could have done with fewer
jokes. The repertoire consisted of jazz standards, but they were very
well played. Listmate Elazar played banjo and cornet and had two solo
features: "Conney Island Washboard" and a Sousa number the title of
which escaped me.
All members played well, Jacques Sany (soprano sax) and Amnon
Ben-Artzi (trombone) excelling. The concert was quite long, so it was
good value for money.
Cheers
