You also should look at "That's Why They Call Me Shine."

The chorus was reused in the later 20's, with an innocuous verse stuck on 
it, and called it simply "Shine."
The original version came from Negro Vaudeville in 1910 or 1911, and has 
some very pointed comments to make.
