I know I post about this site every year or so. Those who have the
information, please ignore this post. However the newer list members
may want to check it out.

My late friend, Bill Chambless hosted a weekly radio program at the
University of Delaware, Newark campus, that ran for some 19 years.
These shows were recorded. He played songs from his VAST personal
record collection which featured music from 1900 to 1940. The first 11
shows run about 90 minutes, thereafter they run about an hour. His son
John Chambless converted these shows to mp3 format and makes them
available FREE of charge..

This is, IMO, one of the greatest resources around for band leaders as
the shows have a theme. Like World War 1 songs, Love Songs, Gershwin
Songs, Songs of the Depression, Sentimental Songs, Springtime Songs,
Radio Ladies of the 1930s, Money Songs, Banjo songs, etc., etc., etc.

And lovers of the music of the first half of the 20th century will
adore these shows.

The bands/performers are the stuff of which legends are made. Ben
Pollack, Vincent Lopez, Harlem Hot Chocolates, The Boswells, Mae West,
Hal Kemp, Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman, Coon Sanders, Scott Joplin,
Paragon Ragtime orchestra, Chick Webb, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington,
Paul Whiteman, Ted Weems, Guy Lombardo, etc., etc., etc.

In all, about 250 hours of listening to 78 rpm recordings of Mr
Chambless, so far, with his minimal comments.

BTW, Bill's son John, still has about 900 more show tapes to convert
to mp3. You may reach him at:
johnchambless at yahoo.com. He will answer any questions you may have.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
