Dear Dave,
Please don't damn the multi-talented Louis Prima with faint praise.
Just kidding.

All record label credits from 1936 correctly name him, including the first versions by Louis Prima, Fletcher Henderson, Jimmy Dorsey, Willie Lewis (as Prima-Murphy) and Benny Goodman.
As does ASCAP.
The original recorded versions include the vocal, with Goodman the first to drop it.
However, in Goodman's initial live performances, prior to his 2-part Victor version (July 1937), it was a feature for Helen Ward.
There is a broadcast of her singing it on LP (Sunbeam 105) which I was never able to acquire. It is not on CD that I know of.
As the Goodman band continued to play around with the tune on tour a new non-vocal arrangement evolved, including the homage to "Christopher Columbus".
Very kind regards,
Bill.
