There's two possible explanations. One, Vitaphones and many other filmed
performances of bands were done with the music recorded separately and then
"mimed" to for the film. The other possible explanation is that one of the
other trumpet players (seen during Whispering) played while Red was
"conducting."

Anyone notice the band played Ida in D? It's the key they recorded it in for
Brunswick...
