Dear Bill,
I refer to  Harris and Rust's "Recorded Jazz: a Critical Guide" as
"The Bible," and consult  it a lot.  Even though I've never accepted
waht they had to say about Benny Goodman (still my all-time
favourite), Ellington and the white New York musicians (Napoeon, Red
and Miff, etc.).
By the way, I got the book only int the 1960's

Does that mean that you never read Agatha Christie or Edgar Wallace?
