Mike and DJML--
Well, i wondered what had happened to Dixie. She and i used to trade emails (she being in Houston, me in Austin) about music and Texas. The last email i had from her was in 2003. I did web-searches on her name for a number of years after that without any success.
Here's a message from her from 2001 about herself (apparently i had asked her about herself):
"Dan,
No college degree. Just some college hours from Our Lady of Victory College
in Ft. Worth along with a diploma nursing course.
Do you know what I miss? Southwest Conference Football every fall,
especially the Turkey Day game. I remember someone saying he went to a game
that had 3 squads on the field; Aggies, Longhorns and a squad of Texas
Rangers and Highway Patrol to break up the fights between the players.
Also, all my years working in surgery--telling a couple of surgeons who were
Aggies jokes while they were doing surgery.
I've been in Houston since 1974. I have had more fun in the last ten years
being an activist/troublemaker. I volunteer for Citizens For a Sound
Economy, I'm Republican Precinct Chairman in my precinct and have had three
stints as Presiding Election Judge. NO HANGING OR PREGNANT CHADS IN 2000.
I've renamed Shake That Thing. It's now Shake 'Em Up when I really want to
get motivated. Even had a seat at a luncheon and a dinner that I will never
forget. One with Charlton Heston and the other with Lady Margaret
Thatcher--both complimentary seats that I could have never afforded if I
didn't volunteer.
Dixie"
Dixie, i bet you've been tearing things up where you've been since 2006!
Thanks, Mike.
Dan

Some might recall that several years ago I tried to find former list-member Dixie Teel of Houston, TX, but to no avail. Finally, due to my own dilatoriness, I found what I'm fairly sure is the confirmation of her death, in TX, in 2006. I have several CDs of both jazz and country, from her "on loan", but she "disappeared" before I could return them to her. One of her most enjoyable stories was when she visited Geo Buck and staff in N.O., and apparently had a wonderful time. One of my prized possessions is a mint condition copy of Coggins' "Turk Murphy: Just for the Record", which she gave me as a gift.
I'm greatly remiss in finally "finding" this out. Now I have, and I share it.
RIP Dixie Teel.
M.
