Cliche (with an acute accent on the e...) how the hell d'you do acute
accents?:-)

It isn't just jazz people who don't know when to stop. Promoters like
the money that big names attract.

I remember Leopold Stokowski at the age of 94 conducting a concert at
a packed Royal Festival Hall; I was in the choir. The poor chap really
didn't seem to know where he was, and it was fortunate that the
programme was made up of repertoire pieces that more or less played
themselves. He really didn't seem compos mentis (sp checked :-) ) and I
could only think that the booking decision had been made on his behalf.
The next day the papers eulogised the performance; but there really
wasn't one

As a contrast; seeing Spiegle Wilcox, at a similar age play a very short
programme and talk to the audience at Sacramento was a privilege. If
Stokowski had been invited to conduct a short piece as part of a
programme, the audience would probably still have packed in and a short
appearance might have been less bewildering.

DISCLAIMER..... I'm not saying that All people in their 90s have lost
their marbles!!

Jude
