Thanks to Pensacola super-jazzfan Mike Lynch who sends this link to Terry
Teachout's column in Commentary Magazine about Cab Calloway.  It's a bit
long, so I send the link for those who are interested.

 

Bassist Milt Hinton worked with Calloway Band for 17 years.  Hinton  wrote
in his  books, especially  Bass Line by Hinton & Berger, about his years
with Calloway.  Hinton said that Calloway was foremost  a singer and showman
and left the management  and musical arrangements in the hands of the
musicians themselves.
