Hi Folks,
I've been transferring some old cassettes of gigs to CD and there's one on which the sax player plays a pretty ballad called Just For Johnny (written for or about Johnny Hodges). In the spoken introduction he says he was given the sheet music by an American bass player with whom he'd played at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival about 1981. The bassist's name sounds like Billy Fozbank, but my spelling is pure guesswork. Do any of our US musician listmates recognise the name? Any info would be gratefully received. It's a pretty tune and now that I've got it on CD I'll maybe transcribe it.
Incidentally, the sax and clarinet player, sadly no longer with us, was a very fine musician called Dick Stroak, whose name used to cause endless grief and/or mirth to BBC programme announcers.
Cheers,
Ken Mathieson
