Hello all
Nobody' yet tried their luck with the "funny melody" on Fred Hall's 'It
goes like this'.
It comes from the Friska of that most hackneyed of works, Liszt's
'Hungarian rhapsody no. 2'.
The link with Teresa Brewer's 'Music, music, music' is straightforward -
the second part of the song ('Closer, my dear, come closer') also comes
from the Friska of Liszt's 'Hungarian rhapsody no. 2', the section
followingFred Hall's "funny melody".
'Music, music, music' is well known to DJMLers because of the band
backing on the original 1949 recording and the piece is based almost
entirely on borrowed sources.
The first part ('Put another nickel in') comes from a ragtime piece,
'Melody rag', by Pietro Deiro. Deiro was a piano-accordionist and he
recorded the work in New York in 1915. The recording has been issued on
LP (VJM 51).
More than you wanted to know,
:-) Anton
