Early in his career, Wynton Marsalis played Bach horns. Later, he switched to Monette horns. He's done various ones of those. 
Somewhere along the line, (and I don't remembr enough of the story to say a lot) he was given a horn by, I think, Al Hirt. 
I can say personally that at times, all of us will play a certain horn to add some authentic flavor or sound to something. I have a 1935 NY Bach cornet and a 1908 Conn Conqueror that I've used for specialty things and occasions.
