This week's show features Hoagy Carmichael's tunes as interpreted by
the Jim Cullum Jazz Band with vocalist Stephanie Nakasian and pianist
Dick Hyman.

Many of you already know that Hoagy was heavily influenced by his pal
Bix Beiderbecke during their Jazz Age association at the Indiana
University campus. His original title for what became "Skylark" was
"Bix Licks," the style of Bix's improvising is clearly evident in the
melodies of the verse and chorus of "Star Dust," etc.

The show was recorded a few years back at the historic Filoli Estate
near San Francisco. Stephanie's connection with RWJ goes back to the
early 1990s when she was introduced to the producers through musicians
Parke Frankenfield and Bobby "Lips" Levine. Ms. Nakasian currently
teaches jazz voice at the University of Virginia. Other RWJ shows
featuring Nakasian include a tribute to Eddie Condon, among several
others.
