Well Ory called it 1919 Rag on his recording in 1945 and Turk Murphy's Good Time Jazz recording is also 1919 Rag. Have you not come across these recordings? Watters called it 1919. Since the tune appears to have been brought on the scene by Ory, I would give some creedence to his calling it 1919 Rag.-

I've always understood that the correct title is just 1919 or if you will NINETEEN NINETEEN. This is the first time I've encountered anyone adding RAG to the title. The word MARCH is often added as it and RAG are often added incorrectly to HIGH SOCIETY and PANAMA. And others.
As a discographer I'm amazed and disappointed at the incredible number of tune titles that are given incorrectly on LP jackets and CD inserts. Words are often added, subtracted or altered. Surely if a band adds a tune to their repertoire they can find the correct title.
As to the composer of 1919, I've been seeking that for 40 odd years without success. And if anyone can advise me the composer of JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE I'd appreciate it.
Best wishes
Jack Mitchell
