[Dixielandjazz] Scott Joplin's Birthdate?

Hi all,
According to "Scott Joplin, the man who made ragtime"Scott was born on Nov
24th 1868 "although no record of his birth has ever been found".

In the Notes following the main text the following is found."S.Brunsen
Campbell and Roy Carew gave this date in one of their 1945 articles in the
Record Changer. Blesh and Janice later used it in their book They All Played
Ragtime and presumably had verified it with Joplin's widow, Lottie."

The book was written by James Haskins with Kathleen Benson, Robson press
ISBN 0- 86051-058-1 published 1979 so something more current may cast more
light.
I can recommend the inexpensive,originally 5Pounds and 25 shillings, book. I
picked it up used and it provided me with some good reading whilst waiting
at Gatwick and on a transatlantic flight.
