In the Charles Anderson collection there's a tune called "In The Evening" by Walter Donaldson, 1924.
Is this the same song you're discussing?

Dear Bill,
It is  the same song as on Brown's own LP "In the Evening" (HEP 2017).
 According to the sleeve of that record, it is  the Leroy Carr song.
